Roe Green Cricket Club's achievement of becoming the first club in Salford to be awarded ClubMark accreditation is a significant step forward for the club, and for cricket in the Greater Manchester area.
The award reflects Roe Green Cricket Club's position as one of the strongest in the county with a team in the JW Lees Lancashire County League, and a well-stocked junior section.
The ECB/Sport England ClubMark accreditation scheme is a national programme that seeks to recognise good practice in a number of areas such as Child Welfare.
With the positive message the Clubmark accreditation sends to the local community, schools, community groups, local authorities and other local funding agencies about the quality and safety of a club's junior section, the club is hoping it will assist them to attract additional funding for the improvement projects planned over the coming 12 months.
The achievement of the ClubMark accreditation, which guarantees a base level of quality in all areas of Health and Safety and child protection, is only the first stage in Roe Green’s future development. The next stage is to ensure the club's development plan is aligned with the county development plan, so that it not only addresses the needs of the club but also of the district and county as well. This in turn will help the club secure future funding and demonstrate a clear development path to potential sponsors.
Roe Green CC are developing plans in other areas such as volunteer recruitment and training, school to club links, coach education, summer cricket schools, facilities development, grant aid and so on.
Links with the local authorities are important too. Roe Green CC are represented on the Salford Cricket Development Group & Salford Schools Cricket Association which sets the agenda for the local 'Coaching in Schools' programme as well as running District sides. Roe Green CC is an affiliated member of Salford Sports Council & Salford Community Network.
The facilities Roe Green CC’s Greenleach Lane, Worsley ground are good and improving. The recently extended ground is kept to a high quality standard by it’s volunteer ground & club staff, and enables them to run several senior and junior sides. Amongst it’s planned ventures is to build a four lane permanent net facility which will enable them to offer it’s facilities to schools & district sides for coaching. The club already hosts schools, district & representative competition. The club’s own coaching staff, who already run regular junior coaching sessions, maintains good relationships with all local schools - encouraging young cricketers to make the transition from school cricket to club cricket at Greenleach Lane.
With a commitment to improving its facilities and administration through volunteers and officials, the club's future is bright. It aims to build on its strong tradition of producing good quality cricketers, a number of whom have gained county recognition in recent years.
